It’s Throwback Thursday, and Pennzoil brought back its iconic “Yellow Submarine” design to the Verizon IndyCar Series, which is spending the Merry Month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The celebration is Pennzoil’s way of introducing its new Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum motor oils made from natural gas, a first of its kind. The lubricants sold in stores is the same as used as the race teams.
Castroneves will drive the No.3 Pennzoil Chevrolet in the 2014 Indianapolis 500, and also at the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston #1 in October.

For the occasion, three IndyCar champions were on hand with their three Pennzoil cars – JOHNNY RUTHERFORD, RICK MEARS and HELIO CASTRONEVES. Between the three of them they have 11 Indianapolis 500 Champions. Castroneves has one more Indy 500 to win to be on the level with the two legends, who each have four Baby Borgs. While the two four-time Indy 500 champions won in the Yellow Submarine, Castroneves has not. He’s hoping his running the Yellow Submarine this year will bring him his coveted fourth Indy 500 victory. He said “I remember Rick Mears going down the straightaway and into Turn One. You could spot the car – anywhere…..but I am going to drive the car! What a tradition and what a great honor.”
