FOGGY MOUNTAIN BREAKDOWN

Foggy morningThe fog crept in on little cat feet and snuggled in for 80+ minutes Saturday morning at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. There was no line-of-sight from corner to corner on the 2.232-mile elevated road course and it eerily quiet … as a mouse, waiting for the fog to lift.

Aaah, the Sounds of Silence. None of the 275 cars could take to the track until theirs was a clear view between each turn. It was the Pre-Reunion, Presented by Jaguar historic races and the paddock was full of a wide variety of cars ranging in age from Pre 1940 to 1989, in categories such as FIA Mfg. Championship, Formulas One and Junior, GT, IMSA Sports, Racing, Touring, the ever popular Trans-Am, and USRRC.

But, as it’s said, this too shall pass. And it did. The fog broke, the sun came out and the skies were clear and blue. The weather was warm with a brisk breeze.

Vintage Grid MarshalThe ten race groups had their morning sessions shortened equally; one lap under caution and two or three laps of practice prepared them for the afternoon races.
